Yellow Card Raises $40 Million to Expand Stablecoin Payments Infrastructure

African-founded fintech Yellow Card has secured $40 million in new funding as it looks to expand its stablecoin-powered payments and treasury infrastructure globally.

The latest strategic funding round marks another significant milestone for Yellow Card, which launched in Nigeria in 2019 and built much of its early growth across African markets.

The company has increasingly shifted its focus towards providing businesses with infrastructure for cross-border payments, stablecoin transactions and treasury management. The new capital is expected to support further expansion of those services into international markets.

Yellow Card’s growth also reflects the increasing role stablecoins are playing in cross-border payments, particularly in markets where businesses face currency volatility, high transaction costs and difficulties accessing international payment infrastructure.

The company has evolved considerably from its beginnings as a cryptocurrency platform serving individual consumers. Today, its focus is increasingly on providing the financial infrastructure businesses need to move and manage money across borders.

For Africa’s fintech sector, Yellow Card’s latest raise is another example of an Africa-built company taking technology developed for challenges on the continent into a wider global market.
